Daily Review with SM2

MemUAI Smart Review Algorithm (SM2 Rules) #

In MemUAI, every learning and review session is powered by the SM2 smart memory algorithm.
Its goal is simple:
Help you review at the right time, maximize retention, and minimize wasted effort.

1. Learning & Scoring #

  • After each study or practice session, the system gives you a score (0โ€“100).
  • This score is converted into a quality grade (0โ€“5):
    • 0โ€“2 (Fail) โ†’ Not well remembered.
    • 3โ€“5 (Success) โ†’ Remembered correctly.

๐Ÿ‘‰ A score below 50 (quality < 3) counts as a failure.
๐Ÿ‘‰ A score of 50 or higher (quality โ‰ฅ 3) counts as a success.

2. Next Review Interval #

The algorithm determines when you should see the item again:

  • Failure (quality < 3)
    • Resets your streak of successful reviews.
    • Schedules the next review tomorrow.
  • Success (quality โ‰ฅ 3)
    • Increases your streak of successful reviews.
    • Schedules the next review as follows:
      1. First success โ†’ 1 day later
      2. Second success โ†’ 6 days later
      3. Third success and beyond โ†’ calculated dynamically using your past review intervals and personal memory factor (EF).

3. Easiness Factor (EF) #

  • EF (Easiness Factor) reflects how easy or hard an item is for you to remember.
  • EF changes automatically with your performance:
    • Strong answers โ†’ EF goes up โ†’ longer review intervals.
    • Weak answers โ†’ EF stays the same or decreases โ†’ shorter intervals.
  • EF is always kept within a safe range (1.3 โ€“ 2.7) to balance efficiency and memory.

4. Knowledge Proficiency Levels #

To make progress clearer, MemUAI translates your performance into proficiency levels:

  • Beginner
  • Familiar
  • Intermediate
  • Proficient
  • Mastered

๐Ÿ‘‰ After every study, your proficiency is updated based on EF and your streak of successes.

5. Tracking Your Progress #

  • Every study result is recorded, including score, time, duration, and proficiency.
  • You can review your learning curve anytime to see your progress.
  • Based on your history, the system generates a personalized review plan tailored to your needs.

6. Why It Matters #

  1. Saves time โ€“ No more reviewing things you already know well.
  2. Scientifically efficient โ€“ Reviews happen right before you would forget.
  3. Personalized โ€“ Adapts to your individual memory patterns.
  4. Visible progress โ€“ Proficiency levels and data let you see improvement clearly.
